Well, it's come down to what Bob Doran, on the NCJ Blogthing, depicts as a death match. Heraldo describes a seismic battle. MediaNews Group, which owns the Times Standard, is suing the Eureka Reporter for unfair competition.Years before the Eureka Reporter entered the market, MediaNews Group bought its successful competitor, the Tri-City Weekly in order to consolidate their dominance in Humboldt County print advertising. This is an acceptable business practice.
Few would deny that the Times Standard has markedly improved since the unfair competition started rolling off the state-of-the-art press in Samoa. It's a shame that this fight can't be waged in the streets, rather than in the courts.

Nice photo. The guy in the lower right looks like Hank while the gentleman in the middle looks like Dave Silverbrand. That's me in the hat.
That guy has far too much hair to be Hank!!
And where's the monocle?

I call it a joke.
"The streets?" Have you forgotten where you are?
We give up, MovieDad. Tell us where we are.
But the MediaNews Group publishes such outstanding newspapers!
Really, when I start my barbecue, I always reach for a Dean Singleton rag over the Hearst competition.
The other morning we were greeted with "Obama Still Undecided on Running Mate" on the front page. Of course the Chronical had someone check the wire a couple of hours before printing, and the Chron is a notoriously bad paper.
All bets are on the Senior News coming out on top.
